For making your own herbal glycerites! 

Vegetable glycerin is an edible, sweet, syrupy substance that is the bi-product of soap manufacture. While chemically an alcohol, it does not have the same effects on the body as the ethanol we use for tinctures and cocktails, so is therefore suitable for “alcohol-free” herbal extracts and for topical use.

Vegetable glycerin is also a natural humectant, drawing water from its environment and toward itself. This makes glycerin highly valued as a skin moisturizer. It's beneficial to apply glycerin to damp skin, however, so that it pulls surface water into the skin. If applied to very dry skin in a very dry environment it's possible for the humectant nature to, instead, draw moisture out to the skin's surface from within cells. 

Properly made and stored glycerin extractions, or glycerites, can have a shelf life from 1-3 years. Some folks choose to store glycerites in the refrigerator to be safe.
